Building a better way: the journey from prospecting to delivering prospects

It was an ordinary autumn morning when it all began. Raindrops softly drummed against the window in Oslo, and I sat at my office desk in an open corporate landscape, coffee cup in hand, scanning for my next sales meeting. As an experienced sales associate within different segments and companies, I knew where the magic truly happened – out in the field, where conversations unfolded, needs were discovered, and my next-level creative solutions found their way to customers. This was where I could truly use my expertise and bring real life value to clients.

I glanced at my way too expensive watch – the day was slipping away, and I had barely made a dent in the call list, let alone scheduled a meeting. It felt as though all my skills were trapped behind routine tasks that consumed far too much of my time. Then, like a lightbulb flickering on, an idea began to take shape.

What began as a simple drive to streamline my own work soon evolved into something more. I wanted a solution that wouldn’t just improve my workflow but could also be a game-changer for anyone in sales – especially those stuck in the grind of booking meetings.

My vision was a system that could completely transform the prospecting process – almost like magic, but in digital form. Something that started as a tool for personal use was now becoming a solution that anyone could benefit from.

The common challenge

In the sales industry, it's no secret that salespeople often spend more time booking meetings and chasing after leads than they’d like. International studies shows that the average account manager dedicates a staggering 80% of their working hours to reaching out to around 60% of their prospects, chasing them into a lead, much of which is spent dealing with rejection. This inefficient cycle prevents these AMs from dedicating their time and energy to what they truly excel at – building relationships, consulting, advisory - and actually be closing these deals.

To put it into perspective, if an AM works 40 hours a week, they’ll spend approximately 32 of those hours contacting leads who either don’t respond or outright say no.This time-consuming process leaves little room to develop relationships with the qualified prospects who actually have the potential to generate revenue, ultimately stifling long-term sales performance.

An easy solution to this challenge could be hiring a sales assistant for the account manager. This assistant could act as a personal organizer — handling cold leads, reaching out to them, setting up meetings, and keeping the account manager’s schedule on track. It sounds simple enough - why don’t everyone do this? Hiring someone also brings responsibilities. As an employer, you’re responsible for their wellbeing, training, and job satisfaction. And if they call in sick or need time off, the tasks they manage might pile up quickly, creating new challenges and an empty calendar for the AM. In smaller teams, this can leave everyone scrambling, which sometimes ends up adding more weight than it takes away.

Another well-known challenge in sales is that customers who pay the least often bring the most headaches. Over time, many sales organizations have discovered that lower-paying clients tend to have higher demands, require more ongoing attention, and often cause more frustration. These customers, while bringing in ess revenue, can eat up a disproportionate amount of time and resources, ultimately taking away from more lucrative, long-term relationships.

This, dynamic leaves sales teams spending excessive amounts of time managing the "smaller" clients, thereby reducing the focus they can dedicate to nurturing high-value prospects who could drive meaningful business growth. It's all about finding the right target group: customers willing to invest in quality services.
